(Ontario, CA) – The 2016 Formula Drift championship came to a close in Irwindale, California on October 8th, 2016. The last round of competition proved eventful for Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis in the Ark Performance Feal Suspension Falken Tires Hyundai Genesis and he finished 4th overall for the season. Bakchis’ impressive results throughout the season and the competitive efforts of his Falken Tire teammates secured the Tire Manufacturer’s Championship for Falken Tire at the season end on Saturday.
Not only did Bakchis compete in the event as a driver, but he also assisted fellow driver Chelsea Denofa during the competition. Bakchis rented his spare Nissan 240SX S14 to Denofa last-minute for competition after Denofa’s engine failed during Thursday’s practice. Bakchis managed both vehicles during qualifying and practice on Friday, overseeing the performance of his own competition vehicle while obtaining parts for the Nissan 240SX after it was crashed just before the qualifying session.
Bakchis made his way into the main competition on Saturday, entering the Top 16 round only 10 points away from 3rd place in the overall series championship. Advancement into the Top 8 bracket would have secured a 3rd place finish for Bakchis, but a drivetrain component broke unexpectedly on track, and Bakchis was unable to initiate on his lead run with Forest Wang. This Top 16 finish in the event placed Bakchis in 4th overall for the season.
Bakchis has finished in the Top 5 overall for the past three seasons of the Formula Drift USA Championship. Bakchis has attributed his continued success on track to the help of his teammates and sponsors including Ark Performance, Feal Suspension, Falken Tires, Drifz, Torco, NRG Innovations, Clutch Masters, Bink Industries, 702 Graphics, Swift Springs, Rola Audio Video, Holley EFI, NOS, CBM Motorsports, Hyundai USA, Wilwood, EBC, Deatschwerks, Rehv Clothing, Canton Racing, Mishimoto, Turn One, GP Customs, Sparco, Takata Racing, Koru Works, Turbosmart.
