Bakchis Goes Big in Texas: Now 3rd in Formula Drift Championship Points – September 2017

Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis drove his way to yet another podium in the Falken Tires Drifz Wheels Ark Performance S14 at Formula Drift Round 7 in Texas, placing him in a prime position in the overall series championship. The 3rd place event finish puts Bakchis 3rd overall in championship points and is a testament to Bakchis’ consistency on the race track.

Texas Motor Speedway presents unique challenges as one of the few road courses on the Formula Drift circuit and Bakchis worked with his team throughout the weekend to find a level of comfort on track. He qualified 3rd with scores of 95 and 92, securing a position in the Top 16 main event.

During the main event tandem battles, Bakchis showcased his strengths as both a lead and chase driver. He had a one-more-time battle with Falken Tires teammate Daijiro Yoshihara in the Top 8 round and performed a chase run with unprecedented proximity on the track. With a clear advantage after his lead run during the Top 4, Bakchis unfortunately was momentarily blinded by tire smoke while following Chris Forsberg and over-rotated in the chase position. This led to a 3rd place event finish, Bakchis’ third podium this season.

Bakchis mentioned, “I’m really excited to be on the podium again in Texas. My team and I have just been improving our system every day and it’s great to know that all of our planning, preparation, and long days are more than worth this experience of being on the podium. I’m looking forward to bringing this momentum into Irwindale – it should be a great season finale.”

With only one event remaining in the 2017 season, Bakchis is in a prime position to finish the season with extremely high standings. The season finale takes place in Irwindale, California on October 13-14.
