(Ontario, CA) – Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis took his second event win at Formula Drift Round 6 over the weekend. Bakchis exhibited exceptional driving technique and style throughout the event, qualifying second on Friday and then going on to win the overall event on Saturday in the Ark Performance Feal Suspension Falken Tires Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington greeted the event with perfect weather and a new course layout. The course included a banked outside zone and high-powered infield with a more narrow finish than in previous years. Bakchis adapted to the new layout quickly and sat in the number 1 qualifying position with a score of 91 until the last run of qualifying when he was bumped to the number 2 qualifying position.
The tandem rounds on Saturday proved exciting for Bakchis and he was paired with Chelsea Denofa in the Top 32 bracket. Bakchis went on to drive against Forrest Wang, Frederic Aasbo, and Ken Gushi, ultimately being paired with Chris Forsberg for the event finals. Bakchis led the final battle with a precise lead run where Forsberg made contact with Bakchis and spun in the infield. Once in the chase position Bakchis exhibited car control as he stayed close to Forsberg while avoiding contact when Forsberg again over-rotated on track. Bakchis was unanimously awarded the event win.
